PANS PANDAS UK and Long Covid Kids are hosting a free webinar entitled “Understanding the impact of PANS, PANDAS and Long Covid in a school setting”

Thursday 8th April 2021 from 12pm Register Here

Current estimates suggest that 1 in 200* children have PANS or PANDAS which are treatable conditions if caught early, but 95%** of GP’s are NOT aware of the conditions. The office of national statistics estimates 81,569 children from the age of 0-19 have Long Covid in the UK.

Research suggests that students with PANS and PANDAS and Long Covid have complex cognitive, behavioural, physical and neurological symptoms that affect their school performance. The school’s team can hugely benefit from an awareness of these conditions, their resulting impact on school performance, and the recommended support which is why we have decided to host this event.

PANS PANDAS UK and Long Covid Kids are delighted to bring you this short webinar outlining how you as an educator can effectively recognise and support pupils and students experiencing symptoms of PANS, PANDAS and Long Covid.

PANS (Paediatric Acute-onset Neuro-psychiatric Syndrome) and PANDAS (Paediatric Auto-immune Neuro-psychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal Infections) are immune mediated conditions affecting many children globally.

Long Covid is a multi-systemic condition affecting the whole body, early studies report that children with Long Covid have suffered complex changes since COVID-19 infection, including a significant prevalence of Neuropsychiatric symptoms. 60% reported difficulty in concentrating and only 10% of children reporting have returned to previous levels of activity. https://www.preprints.org/manuscript/202103.0271/v1

More and more educators are contacting us for information regarding these conditions and how they can support these individuals in the classroom.

PANS PANDAS UK and Long Covid Kids strongly believe that schools have an important role in supporting these children. This short webinar will offer educators simple advice in recognising and managing those suffering with these conditions including supporting the children and families to achieve the most positive outcomes they can in school.

Dr Indra Barathan MBBS, DRCOG, DFFP, MRCGP, IFM will be offering an introduction into Pans and Pandas and how the strange and seemingly disparate symptoms may present in children.

Ms Tina Coope B Ed (Hons), MA Ed will be outlining why it is important that educators are aware of the symptoms of PANS and PANDAS and how we can best support these children in school.

Sammie McFarland founder of Long Covid Kids will be speaking about Long Covid in children how schools can ensure they provide a safe space for all pupils such as adequate ventilation to prevent airborne transmission and advice on identifying symptoms.
